Donation info and rules
We ask that you be involved in a 12-step program of recovery to donate. Pretty much everyone qualifies for at least one! Try attending a free program meeting. See the resources page for some examples.
Please do not use credit when donating to our cause. Unsecured debt is a form of compulsive self-harm. Please only use debit if you have the surplus money to donate.
We also cannot accept donations or membership from sanctioned people, organizations, or countries listed by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control.
You can verify our tax-deductible status at the IRS. Alano Dot Online was originally called "Alanozoom" and that name will be in the IRS records until filing a tax return. You can verify the name change at the Oregon Secretary of State.
To ensure groups remain self-sufficient and independent, the cost of Zoom meetings and setup is supported only by the income from annual membership dues, not by donations.
Goals for use of donations
- Integrate Zoom API for automated meeting setup and enhance member dashboard.
- Expand outreach to physical Alano Clubs and other types of recovery centers, clinics, psychologists, prisons, and religious institutions world-wide.
- Translate website and signup form to multiple languages.
- Online account management system to reduce administrative overhead.
- Two-factor text message authentication for account management and signup.
- Integrated payment form with online processor.
- Digital court cards.
- Hire a licensed accountant to review books.
- If donations far exceed these goals, we will (with legal help) plan and build physical Alano Clubs with hybrid video meeting rooms in major cities of countries that do not yet have a strong 12-step traditions, and will help coordinate people to volunteer for the translation of literature in their programs.
Donation amounts go into buckets for the listed funds but may be used for other purposes if the need is more pressing. Our accounting is transparent and accessible for review by all directors, who vote to direct how we spend money, and by members, who elect directors.
